Do you provide care for an aging parent or loved one? Do you reside in Milwaukee or another Wisconsin city? If yes, it’s important to be aware of your available resources and options for assistance. Along with help from trusted care provider Home Care Assistance of Milwaukee, the state supports caregiver rights with a number of initiatives, most notably the National Family Caregiver Support Program (NFCSP).
The NFCSP was created by the Administration on Aging (AoA) to look after the needs of those individuals who care for an aging loved one, providing such caregivers with the information needed to make appropriate and informed care decisions. The state of Wisconsin has received funds to carry out this program under the Wisconsin National Family Caregiver Support Program.
The Wisconsin NFCSP helps to alleviate concerns that families have related to caregiving by:
- Providing unbiased information about support services available
- Arranging for care services in the area
- Helping families understand their options for care
- Offering options for counseling and group support help
- Finding respite for families with hourly or live-in care in Milwaukee and throughout Wisconsin
Those eligible for the program are individuals who care for someone aged 60 years and older, or for someone with Alzheimer’s disease. The program also extends to older adults, such as grandparents and relative caregivers aged 55 years and older, who care for children under the age of 19 or a relative with a disability that prevents him or her from completing activities of daily living.
To help make finding help for family caregivers easier, the state of Wisconsin also has a website for caregivers and toll free phone number to call (1-866-843-9810) for more information. For families interested in learning more about local support options, Home Care Assistance of Milwaukee is another valuable resource, which can offer help in the form of caregiver assistance, respite and emotional support.
